On Bail-Outs & ‘Green’ Companies

First – on the bail-out situation. This to me smacks of socialism/communism. When the government ‘lends’ money to large corporations they now have an interest in same corporations. It’s only a matter of time before some sort of greed or power corruption occurs and the government exerts its control or will onto those that run manage these particular companies. I worry that this could have grave consequences should our system of checks and balances fail (and it will, most likely).

Second – With the current emphasis on ‘going green’ – has anyone noticed those companies that don’t even bother. Car dealers leave their lots lit as bright as the surface of the sun at night, often wtih large showrooms with huge glass windows (energy efficient, eh?). Shopping centers too. I know there is a concern for security of their assets, but would cutting off every other light be that much of a risk? How about motion activated lighting, where a few lights remain on but the others come on when there’s motion in the area. I can see however where sodium or mercury lights would take a while to power up, but I am sure the technology exists to make quicker lights. This has been bothering me for a while, Jamie and I discussed this one night as we drove back from PA and noted that a car dealer in the middle of BFE VA or NC was lit like a beacon.
