Better Week

By Chris | July 18, 2008

Last week sucked ass. I mean, seriously, it sucked ass. Who knew love would be so difficult? Well, they say it ain’t easy, and you know, it wasn’t. Jamie had gone down to Beaufort to visit his friends and family, as his dad was having knee surgery on Thursday (he’s doing well, I’m happy to report). On Monday afternoon he decided, suddenly, that he wanted to leave that night. The underlying reason was that he had some thinking to do about some stuff, and he couldn’t do that with me here. Don’t worry, while it wasn’t a bad thing he had to think on, it was still disconcerting that he chose to leave early. He returned Wednesday night, so we had Thursday together, which was our only mutual day off that week.

Lo and behold, I got called in because another dispatcher was out sick. No one else was able to work. Yeah, great. Jamie and I had planned a day of just being with each other and watching movies and that got flushed down the shitter at 0553 in the morning. I was p-i-s-s-e-d. So I went in, and the previous post refers to the same day. In the end I managed to work a shift swap for Thursday/Friday so Jamie and I had Friday together.

By Friday of course, the week was better, and I worked Saturday and Sunday as scheduled, and the week started out well, and ended well, I like to think. Unfortunately this week Jamie works every day I have off, but not for long, four or five hours a day either in the AM or PM. Now, the next two weeks they’ve fucked him, as he’s dropped the bomb that he’s leaving Summerville, as expected (though much to my sadness). So he works every damned day I have off next week, with the exception of this Sunday. BAH. We were going to plan to go to the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia some time during the week.

This week at work we renovated the communications center by swapping out the old-ass console setup for a shiny new Wright-Line installation. It’s sleek and totally changes the appearance of the center. Looks very professional. It ran about a day and a half over on the estimated install, due mostly to getting the radio/phone equipment up and running, as well as getting the consoles wired up and the city computers in. We had two power supplies go bad for one of the three consoles, and those got express-shipped in today, so all three are up and running five days after the update. Thank God! Working in the temporary comm center sucked ass (It was in the training room). Here’s some shots of the new setup:

Jamie and I also went down to Beaufort on Tuesday, and we swung by Savannah, as I’ve never been and Jamie wanted to visit once more. After a few hours there (Savannah is definitely beautiful!) we went up to BFT and I met his parents. I was nervous, as I’ve only met his father once (who reportedly is okay with), and his mother is…well…unique. They bought my lunch, which was unexpected and extremely generous and gracious of them. Then we stopped by Jamie’s house, which I’ve only ever seen from the street and I was given the grand tour (much to Jamie’s chagrin) by his mother. They have a beautiful house. Then we regrettably left for Charleston so Jamie could make it to work by 5PM. He had just enough time to slap on clothes and head out.

Overall, this week was stellar compared to last week, even with Jamie working all my days off. Let’s hope the weekend shapes up to be a good one!
