Super what?

By Chris | February 3, 2008

I have no intentions of doing anything Super Bowl related this evening.  In fact, this is the last you’ll hear of it.  I hate football on TV.  That is all.

I started my garden for 2008.   I’ve started with lettuce seeds, which were planted today, perhaps a little late, but whatever.  Those will enjoy the cooler weather, and when it gets gross and hot, I’ll plant something else there.  I started the Roma tomatoes.  I also seeded for some new items this year:  snap peas and green beans, both in bush varieties.  I planted the same peppers as last year, but I hope that with me starting them earlier this year they will fare better this year.  I’ll also do basil again this year.  If Eric will let me build another box I may try some zucchini again this year, since all three crops failed last year.

The dirt is nice and dark and appears nice and rich for this summer’s attempt.  The two lines in the dirt are the two rows of lettuce.  I’ll have to thin them when they start to sprout.  A plan for later this week is adding PVC hoops and acquiring some plastic to frost-proof the garden and also for me to be able to put some bug netting on in the event I want to try zucchini again.

In other news, I ran the washer today with a load in it, and forgot to put detergent in.  Oops.  That’s the first time I’ve ever done that.

I DO remember to put in the powder but I just learned it’s best to wash towels separately WITHOUT using a softener. Apparently towels loose their absorbency if you add it.

Hmm. Looking at the Downy label, I see it warns NOT to use with flame resistant sleepwear because it “may” reduce flame resistance.

Life used to be so simple. Stick with easy stuff like gardening.

Yeah, I’ve noticed that with towels…like trying to wipe off the bathroom mirror with a freshly washed towel.

The softener coats the towel fibers and is what causes that to happen. It also does cause many items to be come literal torches. I saw it on the news a few years back. Skeery.
