212 no more…
By Chris | January 10, 2008
I turned in my resignation and all my equipment to the fire department today. It was a decision that was initially hard to make, however it was made easier by the promotions that had occurred on Tuesday. I had originally planned to quit on June 18th, but then the fire at Sofa Superstore happened, and we all pulled together. It masked the problems for a while, and after a while they came back, as I knew they would.
I kicked around a leave of absence idea for a while, but I know that near the end of it, I’d probably not want to go back. Then they promoted five people, without so much as an interview board or anything. I did not put in for the promotion, I was happy driving. In any event, when I saw the names (that I had expected anyways) who were promoted, I decided that now was as good a time as any. I am busy and do not have the desire to devote the time needed, nor do I have the desire to deal with the stress. I also know that there would be issues between myself and two of the three I did not think needed to be promoted, so I decided to save myself (and them too of course) the headache and stress of dealing with that.
My only regret is that I won’t have a radio callsign, so I can’t use the radio for that anymore…haha. I’ll use the phone (as I normally did anyways) I suppose.
I’m pleased to be unburdened, though I’ll miss it a bit. Who knows what’ll happen in the future. I left on good terms so hopefully if I wanted to go back at some point I can.
Oh, and we’ll see how long they can go before they feel the need to call me when their computer network needs work. It’s working fine now, as it normally does until someone dorks it up. I don’t volunteer anymore, so it’s going to be a paid basis. ![]()
