On GMail’s IMAP & Sonic Drive-In
By Chris | November 5, 2007
I’m less than impressed with GMail’s new IMAP feature. The connections are hit or miss, and sometimes emails that are in the system do not get downloaded when it does connect. Come to think of it, GMail has been having reliability issues as of late, even with their POP3 support. Which sucks, because I really like GMail and would not be pleased to have to switch to something like Yahoo! which charges you for POP3 access. Oh! I guess I could use my ERAU email address…which I just set up for POP3 access from work and home. Hmmm…
Call comes in at work at approximately 0555. It’s our local Sonic within the city. The brainiac running the shift is concerned because there is a car that’s been parked in the lot for a while. I ask him if maybe (on the off chance) that they’re just waiting for the restaurant to open (they open at 6). He says that they “never have anyone wait for them to open.” No kidding, maybe it has something to do with the workers. So I then state “well, what are the chances that he’s just really hungry?” and the caller says, “well then why couldn’t he just go somewhere else? Burger King and McDonald’s are open this early.” At this point I realize that I’m not going to get any sense talked into the oxygen thief and I send an officer. Guess what? They were waiting for the store to open. (rolls eyes).
