A paltry sum
By Chris | September 20, 2007
OSHA’s report on the Sofa Super Store (S3) fire has been released on the P&C’s site. S3 got over $30K in fines, and CFD got a paltry $9K. Good to know, that at least to SC OSHA, one dead fireman is work about $1K each. While I think we all knew the business was guilty for things, the FD was also guilty of such things. Most of S3’s things had to deal with employee safety, fire exits and the like - not the FD stuff. Those may or may not (unlikely) have affected whether the nine FF’s made it out or not. The fire doors might have affected the spread of the fire, however.
The bickering on the P&C message boards about the fires is ridiculous. The stories the P&C are starting to publish are making the union out to be the good guy. I hate to break it to everyone, as I am sure most everyone knows anyway - but if unions were so great, then why are there not that many of them around? Unions have their uses, and quite frankly they’re not worth it (IMHO). Maybe back in 1910 when employers willfully abused their employees.
