The Iodine State?

I would never have known that SC was known, at one point, as ‘The Iodine State” were it not for a little link on the SC DMV website: SC DMV Historical Information.   Lo and behold, Google proved it true as well.

Interesting. Of course, I’m not originally from here, so some of you ‘native’ readers may have already known some of that. I think the metal licenses were kinda cool. I kinda wish they’d go a little more in depth about some of it, but it’s still some totally interesting information. Take a look!

  • Yes, I’m a native and had a metal driver’s license. It was sturdy enough to carry on your key chain and use as a screwdriver. Guess it expired when I was got out of the Marines in 1960 and moved to San Diego and college.

Growing up, I was aware that a 14-year old could get a license and you could buy beer at the drive-in restaurants.(My Dad did NOT go along with that for his three sons.)

I lost some friends in high school auto accidents and, yes, alcohol often WAS involved.

  • Oops. Should be “when I got out…”
