iHowMuch?

I saw this article on Yahoo! about how expensive AT&T plans for the iPhone are going to be.  I’m not surprised…we’re all familiar with how expensive mobile calling plans can be, and since this one includes an Apple product, well…then…of course it’s stupid expensive (or can be).  Link to the plans..here.

The good news: All plans include unlimited email and web, rollover minutes, unlimited mobile-to-mobile, and 200 text messages a month. All except the cheapest plan include unlimited nights and weekends minutes; the cheapest plan includes a mere 5000 of those.

Well, my Verizon plan is 450 minutes, unlimited nights & weekends - about $30.00 or so.  Now I have unlimited text messaging with Verizon people, which includes 500 anybody-else text messages:  $10.00.  I have the Palm Treo650 smartphone, and the unlimited data plan for that is another $40.00.  So I pay right around $80.00 a month (including my 17% discount).   I would have to pay about the same to get the same benefits, sans the extra SMS messaging.  So….while I think the iPhone is pretty, I won’t be switching any time soon.  I like Verizon, they’ve been very good to me.  Sprint PCS was good to me (2001-2003), and Nextel (2003-2005) was okay (poopy coverage in Chas).  Sprintel is not a company I’d go back to, I’ve had Verizon since March 2005 and am pleased.  If Verizon ever got the iPhone maybe I’d consider getting it… but… I’m leery of any Apple product.

My favorite anti-Mac video.  You’ll like it too.

Plus, with my Verizon plan I can link my account to the On*Star in my truck so I can use the built-in hands-free feature.  It’s another $14 a month, but I can drop the data plan from unlimited to the 20MB plan, which is $20.00 cheaper, and still save $6 total.  We’ll see.
