Pee Double-U Kay
PWK. It’s an acronym I use for ‘People With Kids.’ I got called in to work last night for a PWK issue. Another dispatcher had signed up to work the overtime shift, since we’re still short, and then reneged on it “because she couldn’t get someone to watch her kid.” Ugh. If I told someone I had to stay home to watch my potted plants, do you think they’d understand and cut me the same breaks? Just bothers me that others have to pick up the slack. I’m leery of the PWK excuse, as it was overused when I was in the USAF, where it was common to shaft the single personnel because they didn’t have kids.
I need to find an inexpensive yet efficient/effective portable air conditioner. My room gets entirely too hot during the day to sleep, which becomes an issue when I’m on night shift. I’d slap a less than $200 window unit in there but Eric doesn’t want it hanging out the window (which faces the backyard which is adjacent to woods). It gets over 80 in here most days, usually around 1300 or so and it’s difficult to sleep when it’s that warm. Yesterday the exterior wall was warm to the touch inside the room. So my solution is a portable A/C unit – cooling one room is cheaper than cooling the entire house. The standalone type that exhausts the hot air out of a tube (which would be attached to a window fitting) is what I’m looking for. They make the ones nowadays that takes the condensation and expels it with the exhaust so that you don’t have to empty it as much. Problem is that these things seem to be in the range of $300-400 and there aren’t really any readily available to go and purchase and bring home. If I’m spending that much cash, I want instant gratification.
There’s some news stories I’ve wanted to comment on but I am too tired lazy to do it right now. Maybe later.
