Va Tech
I don’t have too too much to talk about regarding the Virginia Tech incident, other than I think I’ve seen enough of it and that I think the news should find something else to show. Virginia is by no means local (regional perhaps) and yet it permeates the local news like it happened down the street. Yeah it does suck, but what is interesting is the reaction of other schools and those who point fingers at the law enforcement agencies.
They want to know what they can do to prevent this sort of thing again. NOTHING. You can’t predict when people, seemingly normal people, will snap. Some people do. On this great giant blue and white and green ball we live on, there are bound to be some errant humans out there. This child clearly wasn’t stable, and despite his tendencies for dark stories, you cannot lock someone up for that.
Stronger gun control is not an answer. Stronger background checks are not an answer. If that kid couldn’t get them legally, he’d have found them illegally, or used another method to do whatever his cracked mind thought up.
What this all boils down to it that it was a tragedy. Something you cannot plan for. People need to recognize and understand this. You can’t plan for everything. Those who fault the law enforcement agencies have the benefit of having nearly ALL the information in front of them with which they can pass judgment. Information was likely not a luxury that authorities had at the time. Monday morning (no pun intended) quarterbacks are not appreciated.
That is all.
