Tragedy today. One of my friends from when I worked in Berkeley’s dispatch, Dawn, was involved in a car accident today, about 10 AM. The driver of a minivan struck her Ford Mustang. The male suspect then hopped out, stated to witnesses “I gotta go” and hopped into a white pickup truck a ladder rack on it, which was last seen going down Liberty Hall Rd towards Hwy 52. As of 7PM Dawn was in the CCU at Trident. The accident occured in City limits, and I found she was involved when I ran the license tag of the vehicle later. She’s alive, but the prognosis is not good.

Dawn and I were both hired at Berkeley County the same time. We went through training together and were on the same shift for some time. She ended up on day shift, and I remained on night shift until I left to work for another agency and ultimately (six days later) ended up full time at GCPD. She left dispatch and went to Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy and has been doing that for the last two years or so.

I went to Trident when I got off of work at 1500 and sat with my old supervisor, Teresa, who supervised the night shift Dawn and I were on. There were several Berkeley units I knew there, and also a couple other dispatchers that I knew. I left around 1900 or so to head home. Dawn may not have known that we were all there, but we were there for her regardless. Dawn’s a good person, and I hate that this sort of shit always happens to the good people, while the suspect or perpetrator runs off with nary a scratch. I hope they catch this son of a bitch and they put him away for a long time.
