Blk Fri & Car Hunt Update

By Chris | November 24, 2006

I thought I’d be creative and abbreviate both black, and Friday. Blk is the NCIC abbreviation we use. Bro would be brown, blu for blue, wht for white. It has basically invaded my lexicon, and I use it all the time now it seems.

Anyways. I didn’t go anywhere other than work for Blk Fri. I’ve no desire to go shopping, nor to deal with large crowds of the citizens of the purported ‘most polite city in America.’ Or so I read some time ago. I worked from 1000-1300ish. I also mad an appointment to swing by GlassPro to have them fix the nick in my windshield, another was supposed to show up around noon, but she was running late so I rescheduled it for Monday, between 0800-1700 at the PD, figuring I’d be there ALL day. When I got home around 1330 after paying for another month of car-ness at SCFCU, I saw a GlassPro van down the street. Hmm. It’s a sign. Of what, I’m not sure..but I am convinced it’s a sign.

New TrailBlazer Hunt Update:

I have found the truck I want. It has all the options I desire, and nothing more. Well, maybe couple that are extraneous. Unfortunately, it is located in Shelby, NC. I’m not opposed to driving there and getting it, however there is a caveat: the color. It’s called ’silver blue metallic (or sil blu metallic…haha). This particular color, from what I’ve learned is a premium, rare color they only offered on the 2006’s during the spring. Some pictures I’ve seen show it as a very light baby blue color, and others as silver with a tint of blue. I think I have to see it. The other details on this thing are:

4.2L I6 engine (love it in my current TB)

Sun, Sound, Entertainment Pkg:

LS Preferred Equipment Group 2: (I’ll just hit the high points)

Grrrrrand Total: $28065.00 Less $5K rebate= $23065.00.

It’s a great price, but it all does hinge on what I get with my trade, etcetera. There is also this mysterious Red Tag sale going on, so that could also help as well. I submitted a quote request to the dealer via Chevrolet.com, but have yet to receive a response. I figure since it’s a holiday weekend it might be Monday before I get a response. But I need time to clean up the current car first anyways.

As I type, I just got an email from someone at Marathon Chevy in Summerville (the old Michael Chevy). Apparently it’s been turned over to a ‘Sales/Leasing Consultant’ AKA ‘car dealer.’ Just what I was trying to avoid by doing the whole internet thing. But hey, I’ll give her a chance, maybe she can hook me up. She did ask for me to set up an appointment to meet with her to find one, as they do not have any 2006’s on the lot. I’m going to email her back…email tag! I’m not going to be messing with her, I just don’t want to have to do the typical ‘car purchasing dance’ if I can circumvent as much of it as possible. Anyways, I shall keep you all posted on that.

As far as getting rid of the current TrailBlazer…well…of course no emails from anyone saying that they want it…but I’m not expecting any. Carmax reportedly gives more money on cars they buy from people, without an obligation to purchase from them. So I figure I will drive up to Columbia one of these days to the Carmax up there, and get a quote. I’ll have Justin or Eric, or someone, come with so if the deal is good enough, they can give me a ride back (or to wherever I’m going to get a new car from). Hopefully there’s not very much negative equity (I owe 11200 on it as of today). I figure 1 or 2K will prolly have to be rolled over into the new purchase…but I have a plan for that, but I won’t get into it. It’s easy if I trade it, but if I sell it to Carmax it requires the mentioned plan. Anyways…I’m going to email that dealer back with the VIN of the car I want, and see what they can do. I’m in no hurry…the current truck works just fine, so I don’t need to have a new car. Eric thinks I’m crazy. Justin prolly thinks so too. Anyways… I’m out.
