All of the idiots…
All of the idiots in the area decided to call at the same time today. Was a nice, relatively idiot-free day. Lessons that the people could not seem to learn today:
You can call and report bad driving, littering, etc of someone driving somewhere (do NOT call 911)…if one of the police officers does not witness the infraction then we can’t ticket them. And no, we cannot pull them over if we do not witness any infractions (for the most part).
Imagine if an officer knocked on your door to give you a ticket because someone said you almost hit them. Not fair eh?
Getting pissed at the dispatcher who calmly and politely explained all of this to you will not make any of the previous conditions magically go away. Then telling the dispatcher that if the suspect vehicle hits and kills someone…because we don’t want to do anything about it, that also doesn’t remedy the situation.
Let’s also consider the logistics involved. I have 5 officers on duty, in locations throughout the area. You’re on a roadway, moving. Most callers either lose the suspect vehicle, or wait until they’re home. Few remain behind it. Logistically speaking, you can give me a changing, moving location, and then I have to send a unit to catch up with an ever changing location. It’s possible, depending on where the units are when the call goes out. If we do catch up, then we get behind it and they do nothing wrong.
Thank you for not calling 911. (silly grin)
