O’Crappy’s & Bad Work Day

Today will be known as the 12-hour shift that refused to end. It started out normally…the rain was a little catalyst, had a few accidents and junk to make the beginning interesting. So it was going well…and then….SLED died. NCIC, DMV, everything…shit the bed. Turned out that the NIC in our computer died so we were unable to connect to SLED via the VPN client. I checked the stupid switch, I checked the settings, I couldn’t ping anything. So, starting out small… swapped cables…no dice. Next culprit…the NIC. I pulled the machine off the server shelf…no lights. Bastards! So Opr1 ran out and got another one. We slapped it in and fired the server back up. Yay! Lights…..(pats server on top “goooood NCIC server.” Then we realized we couldn’t get the damned VPN client to SLED to connect. No SLED VPN, no worky. Tinkered with the DHCP settings, and got it working..basically just assigned it a static IP. Next, we couldn’t get the NCIC workstations out at the consoles to talk to the server program which runs over the VPN. Long story short… NCIC/DMV was down for 10.5 hours. It sucked ass. The cops kept asking if it was working, when we told them we’d advise if it was. Aggravating. I swear it seemed like it should have been 4, but it was 10. Grrr. The last two hours sucked. I was hungry too, I had to skip lunch due to it being the short week, and I wasn’t feeling well. Then on the way home I kinda pissed off Justin, so that added to the suckness of the day, and he wasn’t happy when I got home. Anyways, patched that over, so one thing went okay today. :)

So tonight Justin and I went out to eat. We decided upon O’Charley’s, as we both had eaten there before. I liked it, and I especially had liked the interior… well, that’s all there was to like. The service was fine, but the product (food) went down the tubes. We got two dinner rolls. Two. Granted, there were two of us, but there were these two tiny rolls in the middle of this big-ass basket…that kind of makes it look cruddy. Then…the price vs. quantity. For $8.00 I got a burger (supposedly cooked medium, more like cooked dry), garnished sparingly. And then there was the side of a handful’s worth of fries. I would get more food at McDonald’s for 2/3 the price. Ugh. I start to wonder what the appeal of eating out is today? (sigh)

So what’s everyone got planned for this weekend? I’m not sure what we’re going to do yet… ;)

  • I think we’re taking our preschooler to West Farm out on Cooper Store Rd. He has been begging for a hay ride for the last couple of months. We went to Legare last year for the pumpkin patch and we might do that closer to Halloween. We’re trying to establish some traditions, this time of year gets so busy.

Other than that, tons of house/yard work improving our “curb appeal” since the house is on the market.

    Yup, we’re boring.

  • Selling a house is fun, isn’t it? Fortunately I had a townhouse, all the landscaping was done by the company that the HOA had do our properties. I did buy some flowers and pressure wash the house so it looked all purty. The only other thing I found challenging about selling it was keeping it clean and presentable, and also I had to repaint the two bedrooms upstairs, the roomies painted them DARK blue. Grr. Lots of paint and primer to cover that.

West Farm looks really cool! I had no idea they even had that over there!! I may have to check that out!
