Weekend Over, plus 1
By Chris | January 31, 2006
Hmm…well I had planned on an update, but I got busy with a little project I drummed up at work to keep myself occupied. Sunday nights are very dull…so I had to come up with something otherwise I'd have ended up face-down on the dispatch console snoring in a puddle of my own drool. I cannot remember off the top of my head when I last updated, so I'll just wing it.
I worked Friday, woke up to a voicemail from & 's new landlord calling me for reference information. Yeah, surprise, new landlord. That was the amount of warning I got. They gave me their thirty days notice on Sunday via an email. Was very nice and personal (rolls eyes). They cited that they wanted to be closer to work…which is a viable excuse I suppose. Common courtesy would have been to tell me beforehand that they were looking so then we could set a date on when they'd be out. But since they didn't and they just dropped thirty days notice, guess what…they got their thirty days notice back in return: 28 Feb 2006 @ 12:00 noon…O-U-T. I'm so tired of this roommate shit I've decided to sell the fucking house and live by myself…I'm done with this crap. I stand to potentially make approximately $20K on the sale of it (God bless Charleston and it's booming real estate market) so I figure I'll take the money, pay off the car and my credit cards, buy some furniture and get a 1 or 2BR apartment up here in Goose Creek. Maybe in a few years after I save up some money, which should be easy with no car payment and no bills other than rent, utilities and insurance, I'll go get a smaller house somewhere up here somewhere.
I submitted my Fed & State tax return on Friday while I was at work. I should get just under $2K back from them….which was going to be used to pay down some credit cards, however in light of the recent and future developments I guess I'm just going to dump it in my savings account and hold on to it, since I'm sure I'll need it for March and April's mortgage. I've got alot of work to do to the house…well not alot, but time consuming work. Have to repaint the two rooms upstairs, as well as the stairwell and the halfwall in the kitchen. They're all scuffed up from wear and tear of everyone going past them and whatnot. Other minor things…some caulking in the bathroom. I don't know what to do about the crack in the tile in the two downstairs bathrooms. The building settled and they're in the middle of the building so there's a hairline crack right down the middle of the two rooms. Grrr. I'm heading to Lowe's today to check out those Wagner Power Painter/Power Roller things. I fucking hate painting so I figure that it might be worth the investment if it saves me some time. Figure that when the time comes I just get a couple 5-gal buckets of white paint and slap that puppy on there and away it goes.
On Sunday I returned a call to my Dad and found out that my Jill's (stepmom) grandfather passed away this weekend. He was 92 years old, had his birthday Friday. Sunday was kind of a shitty day, what with the idiocy and then finding out that Pop Bill had died. Oh well…I guess that's the way it goes sometimes. Jill was very close to him and I imagine she's taking it hard. The only good thing was that it was expected, he's been ill for quite some time and had a heart attack recently. My brother Derek and I used to go see him when we'd visit my Dad in NJ…he was always lots of fun and had a great sense of humor. :-( (sigh)
I pick up some OT this weekend on Friday and Sunday….well not really Sunday…I'm taking Angela's shift and she's going to take my Tuesday, so I'll have Tues-Thu off. I also go back to the 1400-0200/1500-0300 shift, which is good, I like that. It's hours mesh with my laziness anyways. So I guess that Sat is my only 100% off day, but that's okay. I get to work with the new dispatcher Chrissy….she's nice and does a pretty good job so far. Just needs to work on her radio usage…uses lots of plain-text which is not what we do here….we have codes for that shit…haha.
Well, I guess I should take a shower and do something productive today other than hold down this chair. Maybe go look at apartments. I'm out…
